Xiaomi 7.9 inch MiPad launced in India

Mobile market has changed completely over the past year or so. With brands such as Xiaomi and Micromax making the most of the business, big brands such as Samsung and others are finding it tough to fight for the mid-high range. The low range market is completely eaten up by the Chinese and other Indian brands.

Xiaomi is now making more noise with its release of 7.9-inch MiPad. What’s cool about the Mi-Pad? Yes, you guessed it right. A high-quality phablet with the price tag of only 12,999 INR. In the last year or so, both Xiaomi and Micromax has made it to the low-mid range segment and has started to take market segment from the likes of the Samsung.

The launch happened last Thursday. Xiaomi launched MiPad and successor of Redmi 1S i.e, Redmi 2s. The Redmi 2s is priced at only Rs. 6,999. The pricing is extremely competitive. Their rivals smartphone Yu Yureka is retailing for 8,999 INR. Those who are looking to buy Redmi 2S can choose Yu Yureka for just 2,000 INR.

The Xiaomi MiPad falls in the category of Tablets and is quite powerful for the price of 12,999 INR. The device is powered by a powerful Nvidia Tegra K1 Quad Processor. The processor runs at 2.2 Ghz and is of category Cortex- A15. With 2 GB of RAM, the combo will work just fine — with no bottlenecks. The GPU is also one of a kind, featuring Nvidia CUDA Kelper GPU. The GPU has 192 cores and is quite capable of running any game out there.


Other than the core hardware, the Operating System is Android OS 4.4. There is no official release, whether the tablet will get a lollipop upgrade. So, what unique about the Android OS? It is powered by one of the best UI — the MiUI, a custom built UI on top of the Android OS.

Storage capacity of the tablet is above average. The tablet comes in two variants, one is 16 GB and other is 64 GB. If the internal memory doesn’t live to your standards, then the tab supports an extension of 128 Gb of external memory using the microSD slot.

The Display of the tab is attractive and offers an IPD LCD capacitive touchscreen. The screen offers 16 M colors and has a size of 7.9 inches. The screen has a resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixels and is protected with corning gorilla glass 3. Any tab or smartphone must have camera that is above average. The camera of the tab is 8 MP primary and 5 MP secondary. The quality of the photos are good and the camera can also record video up to 1080p.

Sound quality of the tab is also good. It offers MP3, ringtones and comes with stereo speakers. The battery of the tab is 6700 mAh, which is the brightest point of the tab. This can make the tab last longer than a day. Currently, the tab is available in Green, Blue, Pink, White, Gray and Yellow colors.
